National Flag of the Republic of Uzbekistan

19.10.2024

The law "On the State Flag of the Republic of Uzbekistan" was adopted on November 18, 1991, during the extraordinary VII session of the Supreme Council of the Republic of Uzbekistan. The state flag and its symbolism reflect the historical connection with the states that existed in the territory of present-day Uzbekistan and embody the national and cultural traditions of the republic.

  1. The blue color of the flag symbolizes the eternal sky and the essence of life. In symbolic terms, it represents goodness, wisdom, honesty, glory, and loyalty. Therefore, the flag of Amir Timur’s state was also blue.

  2. The white color of the flag represents the sacred symbol of peace, harmonizing with the brightness of the sun and cosmic lights. White symbolizes purity, innocence, clarity, and the aspiration for inner beauty.

  3. The green color represents the renewal of nature. In many cultures, it symbolizes youth, hope, and happiness.

  4. The red stripes signify the life-giving forces flowing within us.

  5. The depiction of the crescent moon is connected to our historical traditions. At the same time, it is a symbol of our achieved independence.

  6. The stars are considered spiritual and divine symbols for all. The representation of 12 stars on the State Flag of the Republic of Uzbekistan is also directly related to our historical traditions and ancient chronicles. Our attention to the twelve stars is explained by the fact that the science of astrology developed in the scholarly thought of the ancient states on the territory of Uzbekistan.

The depiction of 12 stars on our state flag should be understood as a symbol of the ancient culture of the Uzbek people, their aspiration for perfection, and their quest for happiness on their own land.
